gem’s adventures

I believed Helen Keller when she said, ‘life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all’. So, I ventured off into the world at sixteen and started adventuring.

  • Lived in England for ten months at the age of sixteen.
  • Was booked for a tour of Buckingham Palace the day Princess Diana died.
  • Went to Spain for 2 hours, just to try the famous Seafood Paella and to sip traditional Sangria
  • Explored ruins in Wales.
  • Spent a night on pleasure beach and got up to some mischief.
  • Toured the Guinness factory in Ireland and engaged in an underage taste test.
  • Spent Christmas in an Austrian castle.
  • Got my tongue pierced in Barnsley {took it out three years later}.
  • Stayed at a Bavarian hostel in Germany and learned the Auerhahn Schuhplattler
  • Travelled from England to France via the Channel Tunnel in the back of a pick up truck.
  • Shot pool with the locals in the South of France.
  • Built bridges & wells in Guyana for three months.
  • Bummed on the beaches of Trinidad for a month while trying to figure out what to do with my life.
  • Learn how to carve gourds on the Trinidadian beaches with the locals and almost got busted for drug trafficking {I was innocent and didn’t know what was ‘really’ going on}.
  • Slept on the beaches in Bermuda.
  • Helped crew a Tall Ship from Bermuda to South Carolina — was asked to stay on and sail for another three months, but I decided to come home and go back to University.
  • Did a solo paddling trip down the Kootenay River.
  • Went white water rafting down the Kicking Horse.
  • Hiked the West Coast Trail — alone.
  • Wandered through the streets of the Dominican Republic at night — looking for an adventure with the locals {never found one, but it was an adventure anyway}.
  • Birthed both my babies at home.

Then I began my study of psychology and I discovered, the greatest adventure of all is the journey that takes you within. My inner adventures were the most challenging, and rewarding.

Now I see all of life as a grand adventure. I plan to have many more inner and outer adventures and I’m delighted to share this adventure called life with you.
